Today, I run by baking business from our forever home, do small town farmer’s markets in my renovated cupcake camper, and share my experience with other bakers. I’m sure they’ll be some ins and outs, and ups and downs of my business from the past two decades that you may relate to. We’ll talk about all things cupcakes, cakes, business, marketing, processes, dealing with customers, and share some of my favorite bakery stories... oh the stories! ....and how I (tried to) balance it all as a military spouse and mom to four. \n\nWith my baking experience, I’ve done a little bit of everything. I’d like to also think I’m pretty good at thinking outside the (cake) box when it comes to business. I’ve expanded my product line from cupcakes in the case, to custom cake orders, to in person and online decorating classes, membership groups, subscription boxes as well as shipping my top selling desserts all over the country. Meet Kimberly

I grew up watching my grandmother (The OG Cake Lady) decorate cakes in her farm house kitchen for our entire community. I come from a long line of bakers and the cake decorating part just came to me some what naturally… with a little learning from a few failures along the way.

I owned a successful storefront bakery in Swansboro, North Carolina for nearly 7 years where my team and I specialized in cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. I began teaching decorating classes in person and then offered online classes to teach people of all ages from all over the world how to decorate different styles of cakes.

When the challenges of 2020 struck, I dug deep and thought outside the box to keep my business open. My team made cupcake deliveries to doorsteps and the people in our small little coastal town were amazingly supportive. When many businesses were closing down, Frosted Cakery was busy baking and delivering all kinds of sweet treats!

When my husband retired from the Marine Corps in 2021, I closed my storefront and we moved our family back home to central Iowa. Once our new home was complete and my beautiful kitchen was inspected and licensed, I put my apron back on and got right back into baking!

New Addition: My husband and I renovated a vintage camper and I sell my cupcakes at markets and pop ups locally.
